How intensive driving courses is different from regular lessons and should you join it?

Potential learner drivers sometimes are unsure whether to choose an Intensive Driving Course or weekly driving lessons. Some differences between the two options are that weekly lessons do not always give you enough time to complete a chosen exercise due to lack of time and therefore you would need to possibly wait a whole week before practicing the same exercise, also weekly lessons can be more expensive and can take a number of months to reach driving test standard.

With intensive driving courses, you have more time to learn the required driving skills

An intensive driving course enables you to practice more consistently and helps you to reach a higher standard due to having booked more hours to complete a given exercise. You can possibly reach the driving test standard within a few weeks and an intensive driving course normally is less money than weekly lessons.

Intensive driving lessons are key to retaining more information for long

An Intensive driving course is taught for several hours over consecutive days, which helps you to better retain the new information. But with weekly lessons due to the gaps between lessons, there is more of a chance of forgetting what was learned the previous week and then having to repeat the same exercises.

Everything is planned

With an intensive driving course, you can better plan a learning schedule and if you have passed the theory test, you can work towards the booked practical driving test. With weekly lessons, it is more difficult to plan, and it could be months before you consider booking your practical driving test.

Intensive driving courses can be more beneficial to you if you have some of the basic driving skills in place, like the clutch, steering, and gear changing. These skills could be leaned off road with family and friends or a few hours with a driving instructor. This will then give you the opportunity to concentrate on the main general driving skills and required exercises for the practical driving test.

So, for possibly the fastest way to learn to drive, reach test standard and achieve a full driving licence with a few weeks, then an intensive driving course will be the right choice for you. Pass Now Ltd recommend Approved driving instructors that are registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

You save £20 when booking online and benefit from the free test offers that are available with the intensive driving course. For more information either visit - https://www.pass-now.co.uk/ or call us on 03330110391

Learn about The Cockpit Drill

To help save you money before booking an intensive driving course, you can help familiarise yourself with the cockpit drill. This is a procedure that you carry out each time you enter the car before driving.
The details below will help you to learn the cockpit drill in a private car.
To begin with, remember ‘DSSSM’, which stands for basic parts of the cockpit drill,
namely doors, seat, steering, seatbelt, and mirrors.

Doors
Make sure all your doors are closed.
In order to check that the doors are correctly closed, look in your side mirrors to make sure the doors are flush with the car bodywork.
When possible, you can also manually test the doors and recheck when you turn the ignition on, as a symbol on the dashboard will show if doors are not closed.
Seat
Adjust the height of the seat to ensure a good view through the front and back windscreens, ensuring that the steering wheel and head restraints do not obscure your vision.
Adjust the base of your seat so you can depress the clutch pedal to the floor and still have a slight bend in your left knee.
Adjust the back of your seat to reach the steering wheel with both hands positioned at ‘ten to two’ or ‘quarter to three’ to achieve an even balance on the steering wheel.
Adjust the head restraint so that the back of your head is centered on the cushion.
Seatbelt
The seatbelt must be applied flat against your chest and stomach with no twists in the belt, fully secured and adjusted to the correct height.
SteeringTo adjust the steering wheel, it must be positioned so it does not obstruct your view out of the front windscreen or when you apply the push and pull steering method

You must also be able to reach the controls located on the steering column with your fingertips without removing your hands from the steering wheel.
Mirrors
Adjust the interior mirror to give you a clear view through the back windscreen.
Adjust the exterior mirrors so that one third of the mirror is taken up with your car and two thirds gives you a clear parallel view back down the road or pavement.
Pre-Start Checks
Check handbrake is fully on and the gear stick is in a neutral position.
This information when practiced correctly with save you some time at the start of your intensive driving course.

Why choose an intensive driving course?

Most people want to learn to drive. Driving can be fun and practical to your daily schedule, so you don’t have to rely on public transport. So instead of taking months to learn to drive you could reach test standard within as little time as a week. A one week intensive driving course is the solution if you are limited on time to dedicate to learning to drive. You agree with your driving instructor over what period and how many hours per day you would like to do the course.

If you are planning to take up one week intensive driving course, then there are a few things you should keep in mind, for example:

How long you take to learn to drive will depend on your ability to retain information and apply the new information to help perfect your coordination and general awareness. You’re driving instructor will teach you at your pace, which may mean that you could take a little longer than the allocated course time.

Secondly, waiting times between tests can sometimes cause a delay and it also depends on you successfully completing the tests.

Thirdly, if you were to fail your practical test the examiner will talk you through your driving faults that you accumulated on the test and you’re driving instructor will help you resolve those issues with additional lessons that you have arranged building up to your next test.

Hopefully the above information has helped you in deciding whether you should book an intensive driving course.
